Who we are

The (in)Famous Glasgow Steamboats. Our website address is: https://shteamboats.com.

We began in 1966 under the leadership of megalomaniac Frank Dunn. Transfers from the Glasgow Uni. teams such as Sarsfield, and weekend releases from Borstal,  augmented a fairly inept starting 11. A lean first season was followed by even leaner second – and then the trophy-famine really bit.

With transfer fees hovering around 5 Woodbine, we picked up some real talent in the shape of Tommy Church, Pete McBride and the “wee Genius: John McGowan. At teh same time we had to shed put own talent (if that word could be used in a Steamboats context) with the disappearance of goalie Tony McBride – claiming cigarette burns when the ball slipped through his hands (a frequent occurrence) .
